LIFE PLANNING
I like to separate out the concept of "Estate Planning" and what I'll call "Life Planning." Estate Planning is more about "what
happens to my property when I die and who will help me control its distribution to my loved ones?" Life Planning on the other hand answers
the question "what happens if I'm still alive but I'm incapacitated and can no longer make decisions on my own
behalf?"
So "Life Planning" involves the use of various Powers of Attorney such as a Durable
Financial Power of Attorney, a Medical Power of Attorney and a Directive to Physicians (Living Will). It also means the use of a
HIPPA Release, allowing your loved one to receive vital medical information from their doctors and hospitals.
